Higher annotation limit (500 per site) and an annotations API

Plausible is a great product, and annotations are a really useful addition. Our team uses them to explain traffic changes, and it saves us a lot of digging through Slack and release notes.

The 500 limit per site is a bit sad for us though.

We are an ecommerce brand. We make 2 to 3 changes to the site every week (releases, promotions, tracking and SEO changes). That is about 100 to 150 notes a year. At that pace we run out of space in 3 to 5 years.

The limit also counts personal notes, so the space goes even faster when several people use it.

The workaround is to delete old notes. But the value of annotations is the history. If we delete old notes, we lose the answer to “what changed in March last year?” That is the exact question annotations should answer.

What we would love to see:

  1. A higher limit, or no limit, at least on the higher plans. Or a separate limit for personal notes.
  2. If a limit must stay, a way to archive old notes (hidden from the chart but not deleted).
  3. An annotations API, so teams can add notes automatically from their release process. This also means we would not need to add every note by hand, one at a time.

Thank you again for listening to your users. We are happy customers and would love to keep using annotations for many years.
